What if the 32nd president of this great nation was a werewolf hunter? After the release of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, this idea isn’t implausible anymore.  FDR: American shows us that we can still take history and make it fun for all.  During Comic Con I was lucky enough to see a screening of this amazing film.  The movie stars Barry Bostwick as Franklin D. Roosevelt who rides his wheelchair of death made by none other than Albert Einstein.  He’s on a destructive blood-covered trail of revenge against the Werewolf Nazis.  The Nazi’s are involved in a conspiracy that caused our hero to become infected him with the Polio virus. (And here I thought it was an infectious disease that is caused by a virus damn school lies again)  The film was written Ross Patterson; the man behind another piece of comic cinema gold:  Pool boy: Drowning out the Fury.  He also played Mike McNaughton in the movie Accepted.

I loved FDR: American Badass. This film has a great cast of actors. Mr. Bostwick has really been in a lot of TV roles since his days on Spin City, and a guest appearance on Cougartown. He delivers a stellar comedy performance as FDR, but that’s not all. There are a slew of cameos from other actors.  Bruce McGill plays Louis, FDR’s right hand man and friend.  You may recognize him as Sheriff Farley in My Cousin Vinnie. The other cameo was Kevin Sorbo. That’s right Hercules himself makes an appearance as Abraham Lincoln. I don’t want to spoil anything so let’s just say he is a picture from the past.

The classic slapstick comedy in this movie brings me back old 80’s comedy flicks. The way the scenes are shot and the flow remind me of those quirky raunchy jokes and quick one liners that added to a great story.  It’s campy as a B movie should be but that’s what gives it the edge.  It brings me back to the days were I would sit on the couch, watching Mel brooks movies like Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs or Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
