After a failed attempt Ralph realizes that he can just climb the tour and steal the medal. After he starts to leave with the medal he disturbs one of the Cy-bug eggs which hatches and starts attacking Ralph, so he gets on a ship to try to escape with his medal unfortunately the Cy-Bug comes along for the ride and Ralph ends up in Sugar Rush a racing Kart game.
At first I was a bit scared that this movie was going to be riddled with so many game references that the story was going to get lost in all of that. Luckily that wasn’t the case in the beginning yes, there were a ton of game references, particularly in the opening scene with the arcade changing game cabinets as time progressed. But as the movie progresses the references began to slow down till finally they became subtle and non invasive. I really enjoyed the introduction of the movie and how they showed the Arcade evolve with different arcade boxes which was very cool to see. You saw some machines come and go, some that most of us remember playing back when we were kids, going to the arcade or at a local laundry mat while our parents washed our dirty clothes to games that only the most avid gamers would know about. I was glad and enjoyed reminiscing about games that I used to play as a kid. I also wanted to watch a good movie with a story and I got that.
Wreck it Ralph is one of the best animated movies that I’ve seen and heard about in recent years. I really enjoyed the world these characters lived in and how they interacted with one another. I liked how they explained when they put old arcade cabinets to rest what happens to the characters from that game. I thought it was pretty cool how the people of Wreck It Ralph moved very 8 bit rigid and move just like they do on screen when your playing the game. I really enjoyed both Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz because while they had their differences, they were very similar. You could feel for them and their insecurities, and ambitions to change everyone’s perspective of them. The story flowed very well every scene seemed in place. I thought both Felix Jr and Seargeant Tamora were voiced very well and the interaction between the two was awesome, it was witty and it just made me laugh.
Overall the movie flowed perfectly I thought every scene made sense and no scene was wasted. I enjoyed and felt for the two main characters and there was a very touching and emotional moment that will tug at you and make you feel for them. While gamers will appreciate and enjoy all the gaming references throughout the movie, which is quite a bit, this movie will still be enjoyed by everyone. As far as the 3D is concerned it was good, doesn’t really enhance the movie overall, but if your willing to spend the extra bucks then I would say go for it, otherwise you’ll still enjoy watching this movie without the 3D. Its one of the best animated movies to come out in recent years and worth checking out in theaters.
