TME Movie Review: Total Recall 2012
By Robert Baker
Release Date: August 3rd 2012
Runtime: 118 minutes
MPAA: PG-13
Director:Len Wiseman
Starring: Colin Farrell, Bokeem Woodbine and Bryan Cranston
Rating: 4/5Â While the ‘remake’ of Total Recall has a new take on what some might call key elements of the original plot, it is nonetheless entertaining.
The story has taken on a new spin where Douglas Quaid, a factory worker, suspects that he really is a spy after visiting Rekall. This visit ultimately goes awry when he realizes who he is and his entire life as he knew it was a cover up. Now Douglas/Hauser is on the run from the authorities and a new adventure begins.
While the ‘remake’ of Total Recall has a new take on what some might call key elements of the original plot, it is nonetheless entertaining. At no point did the story lose my attention and I would recommend seeing it in theaters as the action and CGI never really slows down. My one complaint with the movie was how simply the movie ended. Essentially they fought their way past an invasion force whilst making all the perfect moves just in the nick of time. While thrilling, it was predictable and I felt as though the conflict was resolved prematurely. And while Colin Farell’s performance of Douglas Quaid was well done, it doesn’t quite live up to the masculinity that Arnold brought to the role.
