So I was given the privilege to view the private screening of the Five Year Engagement, a movie by Universal Studios that is set to release in theaters April 27, 2012. The movie is a romantic comedy that takes place in San Francisco on New Years Eve. A couple, Tom Solomon played by Jason Segel (I thought he was awesome in Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Violet Barnes played by Emily Blunt  decide to tie the knot. As they begin to setup preparations for their wedding, Violet’s sister Suzie Barnes, played by Alison Brie, gets knocked up and is soon to be married by Toms best friend Alex Eilhauer played by Chris Pratt before Violet and Tom even get to have their wedding so they decide to postpone their wedding for till things calm down a little.

Shortly within this time Violet gets accepted for a two year job at Michigan University for psychology research. Tom And Violet agree to postpone the wedding till she finishes her job at Michigan University. Tom quits his job as the Top Chef of a fancy restaurant to allow violet to enjoy having the job she she has always wanted. Violet meets her boss Winton Childs Played by Rhys Ifans (I remembered him from being in Little Nicky as Adrian and the Replacements as Nigel ‘ The Leg’ Gruff he looks so different in this movie. I didnt pick up on it till I saw his name in the credits) who quickly begins to take a fancy toward violet over his other 3 students Vaneetha (Mindy Kaling), Ming(Randall Park) and Doug (Kevin Hart). The Same thing cannot be said for Tom as he is having a harder time Settling into the new life where is life as a top chef is reduced to a Deli chef and stay at home Fiancee, Violets term is close to an end till she finds out she has been accepted to do another two years at the university and has to break the news to Tom and put the wedding off again for another two years.

For me I would have to say my favorite part of the movie is Tom decides since Violet is working so hard he will go ahead and make the preparations for the wedding where him Tarquin (Brian Posehn from just shoot me as “that guy”. Jimmy from the Devils rejects who got popped the moment the killers got to the hotel or being a Gamer he was the Hunter in Brutal Legend) and Bill (Chris Parnell which I have seen him in some SNL skits but he is a hilarious person like Brian in my opinion). The guys are going wedding shopping eating cake and looking through suits where Bill tries to knit Tom a tuxedo badly and Tom looks at Bill and says “Seriously it looks like violet would be marrying Sasquatch in this suit” that was one of my memorable part with seeing the guys wedding shopping and having more enjoyment than the women were in the beginning of the movie.

As for my final opinion of the movie. Well…I say it was a fairly decient movie; something you or your date would enjoy. Had just enough humor for the men and even humor for the ladies seeing this is a romantic comedy. So all and all 4/5
