“Super Hero Party Clown” Movie Review
By Crysstal Hubbard
Written and directed by Jeremy M. Inman, and produced by the Spartan Film Studios of San Jose State University, “Super Hero Party Clown” has the charm and talent to justify it’s ambition. The award winning script was an excellent choice by the Studio and the result is an obvious labor of love.
The story of it’s main character Eugene Stimpson (Randy Blair) is presented as one of life imitating art but evolves into a young man overcoming his own crisis of faith. Eugene is a lifelong fan of comic books and is living his dream playing his favorite super hero “Arachnid-Man” for children’s birthday parties. Our young hero of course has the beautiful girl next door he pines after, one Emily Talbot (Shelby Barnes), and his rival for her affection, the pompous Todd Walker (Adam Sessa). As fate would have it Eugene finally makes an impression on Emily but as his masked alter ego at the birthday party of her “Arachnid-Man” obsessed little brother. Feeling his hold on Emily slipping away, Todd gets a job as “Captain Tremendous” at the same party company. An epic battle ensues resulting in Eugene feeling dis-enchanted with his childhood daydreams of costumed vigilantes. With the help of his trusty side-kick (Zack Sutherland), can he overcome his hurdles, defeat his arch nemesis, get the girl, and inspire the next generation of proud nerds? Join us next week…well you can see where this is going.
Several sequences reminded me this was a student film as there were some technical slip-ups. However I found myself easily forgiving all of this while being swept up in a great script,as well as the obvious talent and perfect casting of Blair as our mild mannered Eugene Stimpson. A great start to what I see as some long term and entertaining careers from the cast and crew. A recommended watch for the child and underdog in all of us.
