RPX is coming to San Diego, but will it give IMAX a run for its money?
What is RPX you might be asking yourself? RPX stands for Regal Premium Experience and it’s offered by Regal Cinemas. Now I know for a fact that the Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 & IMAX has almost finished its retrofitting of one of it theaters and plans on opening it with Marvels Avengers on May 3rd which tickets are now on sale. Now IMAX has a lot to offer, but what is RPX going to give you? Really it’s just another way to see a movie in a large screen format. RPX involves converting individual screens into premium environments. The upgraded theaters will feature “luxurious” seats that have high-back head rests. The theaters will also have large immersive screens and are capable of showing Real 3D and 2D movies. They will also be equipped with state-of-the-art digital audio speaker systems with 273 loudspeaker components including eight 21 inch subwoofers. IMAX and RPX work like competing car sales men. Both give the customers the same cars, but one sales man has a different paint job on the car. To give you a better example the avengers only runs one week in IMAX before the next film comes out. But with having the RPX allows a theater to still show the movie on an immersive screen and give the same movie experience as IMAX just with a little darker picture. Either way I know where I be on my 3rd watching the Avengers on RPX.
I managed to have a friend of mine get some pictures of what you can expect to see at the Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 & IMAX
