Retro in the new age: Spelunker HD
For those of us who love the feeling we get when we defeat a genuinely hard game, we have the HD remake of the arcade classic Spelunker on the PSN. Spelunker HD is a HD paint job over the classic arcade pixellated graphics. A 2D platforming game that will have you cave diving your way through levels collecting statues and treasures all the while doing perilous jumps and avoiding deadly foes. You can use faulty mining tools and explosives to explore new caves and defeat your foes. It is also able to be played in its original pixel glory. Everything is kept in tact, the way you control your spelunkers, the feel and the appropriately deemed “Nintendo” difficulty is all there in 100+ levels of 2D goodness, and counting. Today, Tozai Games announced next months release of two Championship DLC packs coming to Spelunker HD. The packs EX9 and EX10 will launch in North America on October 2nd and Europe the following day. The DLC packs will be 50% off for two weeks for those of us who have PlayStation Plus Memberships.
“These new levels are possibly the toughest created to date, in a game that is already considered one of the most challenging of all time!” says Scott Tsumura, Tozai’s co-founder. “Yet our fans keep begging for more, so we’re excited to have so much new content for them.”
Expect to put in many long, controller throwing nights having fun beating a difficult but fair game.
