Rating:( 5 out of 5 stars) The sushi experience surpasses many of the best sushi bars in San Diego

When I think of eating in Alpine I think BQ beef at the Alpine Inn or a buffet at Viejas Casino. Who would have thought that in the midst of a shopping mall a Sushi bar would reign supreme? Ahi Sushi Bar is a small restaurant tucked at the end of a shopping center off of Tavern road in Alpine. The sushi experience surpasses many of the best sushi bars in San Diego. It’s worth the drive to get to.

When you first walk in you are greeted by smiling sushi chefs rolling and created some of the most desirable sushi rolls, beautiful fish dishes and the best Ahi tuna ever. The complimentary sauces and wasabi are wonderful. But the best of the day was the garlic loaded beans that were like I have never tasted. No one could stop eating them.

We choose to eat on the outside patio but I was a little disappointed because I loved watching the chefs at the counter create the food. I would have preferred to sit at the sushi counter to watch.

I had the Ahi tuna and vegetable egg rolls. Safe, but sorry that I didn’t try something I had never had before. The creatively and beautifully arranged meals that came to our table were almost too beautiful to eat. I did not hear one complaint, and there were 12 of us. Needless to say we didn’t leave a crumb.

I won’t say that I adventured too far from my comfort zone and rejected tasting the octopus or ell but the crab avocado tempura rolls were fantastic.

My meal was $12.00 which is average. There menu is extensive and you can have a “normal’ meal such as cashew chicken if you so desire.  My only complaint would be they only have green ice tea. I would have preferred mango or plain ice tea with my lunch. Did I forget to mention that the first 10 items on the menu designated in grey are half price? Bargain. Believe me..
