Every Saturday at Comic-con I set aside time to get into my 2 favorite panels.  Quick Draw! and Cartoon Voices I are back to back in the same room every year.  Mark Evanier, as always, moderates both panels and is equal parts zookeeper and mischief maker, as he runs his artists and voice actors through hilarious games, all while offering insights from his panelists into different eras in the industry.

Those who read my article on Wondercon’s Quick Draw! panel would know that Sergio Aragonés was not in attendance due to back problems, and that Mark called him at home and invited the room to say hi and wish him well.  Well at Comic-con this year we saw Sergio triumphant return, and though he hobbled in on a cane, his spirits were undiminished.  Sergio and Mark were back to their old games, and it was great to see them together again.

This year also saw the first time Keith Knight joined the Quick Draw panel, and commented on how nervous he was to share the stage.  For those unfamiliar with Keith, you should check out his comic the K-Chronicles, where he muses on pop culture, personal thoughts, and life’s little victories.  He was a great addition to the panel, and I look forward to seeing him in future years.  If you’re unable to catch him in a panel, Keith always has his own booth down on the show floor.

As a serious fan of voice actors, Cartoon Voices is a beloved panel that seriously brings out the inner fanboy.  Mark Evanier always manages to find a wonderful combination of actors that span different decades in the industry.  The first thirty minutes are often spent introducing the actors and having them explain and demonstrate character’s they are known for, as well as obscure ones.  You don’t have to be a voice actor aficionado like me to enjoy this panel, as I promise that if you have watched anything animated in the last 10 years you’ll recognize voices from the panels.

Every year Mark brings a rather mundane radio script, free from jokes, in for them to read.  Every year they breath humor and nuance into it.  This year was the story of Snow White and the seven dwarves, and man was it hilarious.  I laughed so hard and for so long my face hurt for almost an hour.

No matter your age or level of fandom, both Quick Draw! and Cartoon Voices are amazing fun for the whole family, and if you can find the time to attend them do so!
