One of my favorite places to visit in San Diego is the Hillcrest Area which lies just north of downtown, next to the 163. If you haven’t been to Hillcrest for one reason or other, then I would highly encourage you to go since you’ll not only find a great place to stroll through but fantastic eateries all around. On this occassion, I decided to go to “Pink Noodle” and try one of their common dishes.
When we entered “Pink Noodle” we were greeted by the attentive owner of the restaurant, I would say this adds to the charm of the place but to be honest, the place was empty so the owner probably had nothing better to do. The place is medium-sized at best, perhaps would fit about 25-30 customers total, but in a place like Hillcrest this is perhaps good enough. When you enter they hand you a set of plastic chop sticks.
Those who know me will recognize that from time to time I have a hard time making up my mind and making a choice that I can be content with. Some call it committal problems, but I say it’s just probably me trying to have it all or none at all. I looked at the menu and wasn’t quite sure what I really wanted, so I asked the owner what would be right for me.
Perfect Cashew: slices of chicken breast marinated with oyster sauce then sauteed with garlic, cashew and dried chili.
The dish arrived and looked as dry as it actually tasted. I’m sure you have all gone out to eat something and you can taste the flavor, just behind all the fluff, like a diluted flavor. The dish does not include noodles, which when the dish arrived I began to wish I had ordered. Perhaps if instead of rice I would have gotten noodles to soak up the flavor I would have better enjoyed the dish.
Although I won’t have the not so “Perfect Cashew”, I may possibly maybe come back to Pink Noodle to taste the orange duck. After I left the restaurant, some people who I spoke with suggested me to try their duck, too little too late buddy. The ambiance to the place was nice, which made the food and company more enjoyable than what it really was. So if you pass through Hillcrest, let me know how the duck is, and that will save me a trip to Pink Noodle myself.
