Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a 42 year old teaching at the failing Wilkinson High School. Budget cutbacks are jeopardizing the music program which in turn would result in Marty (Henry Winkler) losing his job. Scott Voss stands up for the Marty and doing so also reveals that Marty has a baby on the way. Concerned for both the students and his colleague Voss attempts to raise the $48,000 necessary for the program. He tries to raise the money working as a night instructor for a citizenship class. One of his students, Niko (Bas Rutten), approaches him for some outside tutoring. When he arrives at Niko’s apartment, Voss realizes that Niko was a former MMA fighter. While watching UFC fight at Niko’s apartment, Voss learns that the loser of the fight receives $10,000 so he gets the brilliant idea of raising the money by becoming an MMA fighter.

I was actually pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie I think partially due to the fact that Henry Winkler was pretty hilarious in this movie. I also enjoyed Bella Flores (Salma Hayek) as the love interest of Scott. There were a few other stories within the movie such as Niko trying to get his citizenship, Voss asking Bella out and a few others and all the stories were easy to follow and didn’t take away from the main story. The movie had quite a bit of touching moments such as Voss standing up for his colleague or Niko trying to get his citizenship or Voss getting back his love for teaching. It’s also a very inspirational movie at least more than what I expected it to be. I also enjoyed how Voss progressed throughout the movie from not knowing much and losing his first few fights to becoming a force to be reckoned with. He looked pretty good and seemed believable enough to be an MMA fighter at least enough for this role.

Overall this is a movie that has a good story an inspirational theme that is worth watching. The story was interesting and kept me engaged till the very end. I enjoyed all the characters in the film but mostly Henry Winkler who had a lot of funny moments and lines throughout the movie not to say that he was the only funny one on screen I just felt his character had some of the funniest moments in the movie. I also liked the fact that the movie didn’t rely to much on the comedy and focused more on telling a good story. I think this is one Kevin James best roles yet. Overall this is a movie that will be enjoyed by all.
