Mighty Final Fight,a very adorable way to kick some ass
When we are talking about story lines in video games, the most over used,go to and classic choice is always ,you having to go rescue your girl from the baddies at whatever cost,as most men find out eventually, nothing is quite as motivating as an even slight possibility of nookie and how devastating it is for your most reliable source of said nookie is cut completely.Having said that,it is no surprise that the characters in Mighty Final Fight are willing to take on an entire gang that probably resides in the worst city in the US,granted they have a pro-wrestler for mayor this city is made mostly of slums over run by vast amounts of criminals that all oddly look the same. But those of us digging into our retro gaming vaults aren’t looking for Pulitzer prize winning stories,we are looking for action, good game play and testosterone pumped protagonist with power levels of over 9000,and boy-howdy does Mighty Final Fight deliver all of these things, but in cute little packeges that seem to reside in the seedy underbelly of a Sanrio Store.
Mighty Final Fight is the third incarnation of the Final Fight Series, originally an arcade series. It was developed and published by Capcom for the NES in 1993 ,two years after the SNES hit shelves, but Capcom is known for supporting the NES on its last legs. The first two console ports of Final Fight series were on the SNES ,but this new installment brought a couple of innovations.First of which is the addition of Guy a previously absent character from the series. The second innovation and the most intriguing ,is the addition of a new game play mechanic which allows you to level up the character, you gain experience points by beatin up people, you get more points for difficult opponents and boss fights. By leveling up you get more HP and over all Vitality,by level four you obtain a special move unique for each character,Guy gets a Tornado Kick,Cody gets a energy projectile and Haggar gets a clothesline move that is truly devastating. The game play is very similar to the Beat ‘em ups of the era,and has some tight controls and a difficulty level that is not to steep. All of these things, the welcome change of the leveling systems and the fact of three unique characters gives the game tons of game play.Five levels of cute, bad ass beat ‘em up action and a couple of bonus levels.
