Tony Scott Dead At Age 68
Director of a string of high-octane blockbusters including Top Gun, Unstoppable, Crimson Tide and Beverly Hills Cop II, Tony Scott died Sunday in an apparent suicide. According to the Los Angeles Police Department’s harbor division, the British-born filmmaker jumped to his death from the Vincent Thomas Bridge near Long Beach, California.
Born June 21, 1944, Tony was not the only son of Elizabeth and Colonel Francis Percy Scott (you may also know his older brother Ridley Scott, the director of Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator).
Tony Scott made his first feature film in 1983. It was a vampire drama called The Hunger, which he shot after years as a commercial director. His big break came in 1986 with the release of Top Gun. Tony Scott had an impressive career. Some of his most recent movies were Unstoppable and remake of the 1974 classic The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. Scott also was a producer of his brother’s recent film Prometheus. Sadly Tony Scott was rumored to be exploring a possible sequel to Top Gun. He was 68.
