Rating 3/5 While Diary Of  A Wimpy Kid: Dog Summer may not be a memorable movie it’s still a fun movie to take your young kids to.

Greg is your typical kid who wants to enjoy his summer vacation inside playing video games while getting to know Holly (a girl he is interested in ) a bit more. He just got out of school and wants to have his cake and eat it too!  If things went smoothly there really wouldn’t be a story. So like a Judd Apatow screenplay, this movie gets underway with things not going right from the get go.  He finds out he only got a portion of Holly’s number written down on his yearbook due to everyone trying to leave for summer vacation. His plan to play video games all day by tricking his dad into thinking that he was out playing sports backfires miserably.

Shortly after his friend Rowley, invites him to the country club.  Things begin to look up as he finds Holly is a member of the same club and cooks up this idea of going every day in order to get close to her.  Needless to say this plan doesn’t go so well for him either.  Much of the movie is like this; an awkward kid has a plan that fails or some kind of mishaps that prevents him from enjoying his summer. The movie has its occasional laughs that both kids and some adults might enjoy; from kids urinating in the local pool or him losing his swimming trunks at the country club. In the end this movie wasn’t good enough to pay a full price ticket for and I would have waited till this movie came out on DVD or pay per view.   While Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days may not be a memorable movie, it’s still a fun movie to take your family to on a night out.
